On the 27th of October, in the Sofia City Art Gallery was organized a solemn ceremony for the annual awards of the Union of Bulgarian Journalists for 2016/2017.
Traditionally it is held around the Day of the Enlighteners, 1st of November. This year, the big prize "Yosif Herbst" for life achievement and contribution to Bulgarian journalism received Kiril Yanev - a famous journalist, writer and public figure.
The 24-year-old Eleni-Margarita Neykova from the "Diplomatic Spectrum" team received a Young Journalist Award for up to 35-years-old candidates. Elma, as we call her, graduated from the Univercity of Kent, UK in 2014. Since 2017, she is doing her Masters in "Production and Creative Industry" at the Faculty of Journalism and Mass Communication at the Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski". There are also publications of hers in the tourist magazine "Welcome to Greece" and in the "Svatba" magazine. She is a member of the UBJ since the beginning of 2016.
Her interests as a journalist and director are focused on documentary cinema: for three years she has produced four films. The first one, My Hermitage, was made after her visit to St. Petersburg, where she was invited to participate in the International Youth Forum "Culture Dialogue". Materials from this trip are also published in "Diplomatic Spectrum" and "Svatba" magazine. Her third film, Marry me in Delhi, is the result of her visit to India in 2016 and addresses the subject of arranged marriages in the country. Elma participated in the International Documentary Film Festival held on Lesbos Island in early October 2017. In an article about the event, the famous Greek newspaper "Kathimerini" described the film as a "diamond". The impressions of Elma from India can also be found on our site under the heading "World/Tourism".
The fourth film of the young journalist (co-author) concerns the very topical issue of the Syrian refugees arriving in the Greek islands. It is called Mustafa - the Imam of Lesvos. It is shot on the island of Lesvos. With it she took part in the BIT Collective Festival in London in June this year.
