Created in 1994 by Bozhidar Ikonomov, Bozhidar Ionov and Albena Spasova, today it is the only international platform focusing on stage poster and its myriad incarnations. Its creators have a reason to be proud of. With seven successful editions, dozens of projects, hundreds of exhibitions at home and abroad, a series of catalogues and albums…

for twenty years the Triennial managed to establish its permanent presence in the cultural calendar of Sofia and became one of the most prominent art events in our capital. It made the cultural elite of dozens of countries to speak about Bulgaria. All this was achieved with original ideas, great talent and a lot of work.
To commemorate its 20th anniversary the International Triennial of Stage Poster- Sofia chose a very praiseworthy project- the exhibition Anthology of Bulgarian scenic poster. We recently saw it in the INDUSTRIAL gallery. It pulls out of anonymity the remarkable achievements of the Bulgarian stage poster. The hundred selected works that are arranged in it showed us how diverse, attractive, layered, artistic, bold, provocative, relevant and universal the art of the poster can be, especially when it is dedicated to the scene. Authors from different generations are presented; however, their achievements are indicative of processes, phenomena, trends, continuity and new directions in the Bulgarian graphic and advertising design from the last decades. Next to emblematic names of visual culture such as Assen Elders, Lyudmil Chehlarov, Ognyan Funev, Dimitar Tasev, Bozhidar Ionov, Bozhidar Ikonomov, Ralitsa Stanoeva, Stefan Despodov, Hristo Alexiev, Dimitar Traychev, Alexander Sertev, Gancho Ganev, Simeon Krastev, Kostadin Otonov are located the art works of the talented new wave - Cyril Zlatkov, Nikolay Mladenov, Lyuba Tomova, Margarita Doncheva, Maya Staykova…
All of them have received awards from various editions and projects of the International Triennial of Stage Poster. And there is so much more to be displayed! It is not surprising that the Anthology of the Bulgarian Scenic Poster is a long term exhibition-research project which has received the support of the Ministry of Culture, and has yet to be developed and enriched.
