It noted its anniversary with a ceremony on the 12th of November. The event was attended by prominent Bulgarian public and political figures, Russian diplomats and representatives of the largest Russian community in Bulgaria.
Greetings for the anniversary were expressed by the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Russian Federation in Bulgaria - His Excellency Mr. Yuri Isakov, the Minister of Education and Science - Todor Tanev, the chairman of the National Assembly - Mihail Mikov and others. All noted the significance of the RCIC to promote Russian culture and to strengthen the friendship between the two nations.
Awards were given on the occasion of the 90th anniversary of the Russian-cooperation and the 40th anniversary of RCIC in Bulgaria were given to a number of state and public figures for a significant contribution to the development of the Bulgarian-Russian humanitarian cooperation. With the medal "For strengthening peace, friendship and cooperation" were awarded: firstly, the Bulgarian astronaut Georgi Ivanov, the Minister of Education and Science Todor Tanev and the Minister of Culture Vezhdi Rashidov. The honorary sign "For friendship and cooperation" were awarded: the Mayor of Sofia Yordanka Fandakova, the Mayor of Burgas Dimitar Nikolov, the Deputy Minister of Education and Science Vanya Kastreva, the deputies of the National Assembly Mihail Mikov and Taxco Ermenkov, the Rector of the Sofia University prof. Ivan Ilchev, the Rector of the Plovdiv University prof. dr Zapryan Kozludzhov, as well as, the honorary consul of Russia in Burgas Tonko Fotev.
The awards were bestowed by the Ambassador of the Russian Federation in Bulgaria - H. E. Mr. Yuri Isakov, and the new director of the Russian Cultural and Information Centre in Sofia - Sergey Smityushenko.
The ceremony was accompanied by a concert and exhibition dedicated to the anniversary.
