From the 2nd to the 6th of November at the Cultural Center "G8" in Sofia the Week of the Indonesian Cinema was held.
The event, organized by the Embassy of Indonesia in Bulgaria coincided with the celebration of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between our two countries. On its opening H.E. Ms. Sri Astari Rasjid, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the The Republic of Indonesia, told the audience that movies are an effective tool to promote tourism in Indonesia. Mrs. Sekar Ayu Asmara, author and curator of Indonesian films, made a brief presentation on the progress of the seventh art in the archipelago.
The movie fans in Bulgaria enjoyed the rare and different works. They were able to see a truly representative sample - "The Mirror Never Lies",” Three Breaths of Likas”, “Light from the East”, “Crazy Soul” and "Exile in Ende", which showed the beauty and diversity of the traditions and cultures of Indonesia.
It was not a coincidence that the week ended with "Exile in Ende". That was the film that Indonesia submitted to the Film Festival "Love is Folly" in Varna this year.
Right after the end of the Week of Indonesian Cinema on the 8th of November, 2016, a seminar-discussion on Indonesian Cinema was held at Sofia University. Led by Mrs. Sekar Ayu Asmara, it was attended by students studying Indonesian language and interested in Indonesian culture.
