Under this name, on the 15th of June, the photo exhibition of the famous Israeli artist Dorit Feldman, opened in the “Sofia Press” Gallery-Book Store. The event was organized by the Embassy of the State of Israel and the Union of the Bulgarian Artists.
The official opening of the exhibition "Where the Text Turns into Image/Geophilosophy" was made by H. E. Mrs. Irit Lillian, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the State of Israel in Bulgaria, and the author, the curator Shirley Meshulam and the producer of the project Yosi Ben-Bassat personally attended the event.
The artist Dorit Feldman presents a series of 15 works created over the past few years, four of which were shot in 2017. Part of the photographs is linked to specific places in Bulgaria and was created specifically for this exhibition. The collection is also enriched by a video installation called "The Words of the Earth". The works are related to the term "geophilosophy ", where text becomes visual. It was introduced in the 1990s by the French philosophers Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari.
According to the curator Shirley Meshulam, the exhibition presents "reflective-conceptual foundations", a combination of images, texts, historical documents, ancient maps and ideas borrowed from disciplines such as theology, philosophy, archeology, poetry, and modern ideas taken from modern scientific researches.
Feldman deals with the links between history and landscape by creating philosophical, conceptual and metaphorical views in a unique and adequate way. The essence of her work is also done under the "Rhizome" philosophy. The Rhizome theory is guided by the principle that reality is like a root system or a network built of sequences of interconnected objects that intersect in nodes or plateaus. The variety of combinations creates an even more complex network where metamorphoses are performed.
As a conceptual artist Feldman says: "In this series of photographs, I present the inverted mirror image as a process. Inspired by philosophical texts, through creative dialogue with modern poets and writers, I create photographic works in which the "surface" and the captured images are in harmony with the morphology of the Israeli landscape, as well as, other ancient places... The photographic compositions create a visual narrative simultaneously particular and metaphorical. Many of the depicted geographic objects represent ordered geometric spaces that resemble text written on the ground. "
