On 30 June, H. E. Ms. Hero Mustafa, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to the Republic of Bulgaria, hosted a reception at the Embassy to celebrate July 4th.

It was attended by many Bulgarians and Americans, as well as representatives of the diplomatic community in Bulgaria. The attendees enjoyed an amazing welcome and great atmosphere created by the hosts who the next day wrote on the Embassy's Facebook page, "We are extremely happy that we could mark this important event with all our guests".

On July 4th, 1776, the Continental Congress formally ratified the Declaration of Independence, a landmark document in the history and government of the United States. The document was written by Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, Robert R. Livingston, and Roger Sherman.

The Declaration of Independence formally announced the separation of the thirteen colonies from British rule and contained the famous line, "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness."

In 1870, Congress passed a law establishing July 4th as a federal holiday to celebrate the "birth of an independent nation". Americans all over the world celebrate the "nation’s birthday" with outdoor events, such as picnics, barbecues, fireworks, and games. Friends, neighbors, and family members gather in backyards, public parks, at the beach, and other open areas.
