55 years ago, on April 12, 1961 at 9:00 and 07 minutes, the most daring dream of mankind - a flight into space, came true. From the Cosmodrome in Baikonur took off the world's first spacecraft "Vostok 1"

which performed a full lap around the Earth for 108 minutes. On its board is a Soviet pilot and cosmonaut Yuri Alekseyevich Gagarin.

On the occasion of the 55th anniversary of the first manned flight into space at the monument to Yuri Gagarin in the town of Bankya, Sofia region, a solemn ceremony was held. The guests were addressed by: H.E. Mr. Yuri Isakov - Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Bulgaria, Mr. Rangel Markov - mayor of Bankya, Mr. Krasimir Velchev - Chairman of the Friendship group Bulgaria - Russia at the National Assembly, Mr. Temirtay Izbastin – Head of Mission at the Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Mr. Georgi Ivanov - the first Bulgarian astronaut. The event was attended by ambassadors, diplomats, MPs, public figures, citizens.  

Students from the Secondary School at the Embassy of Russia in Bulgaria and 78 Secondary Comprehensive School "Hristo Smirnenski" in Bankya, gave a recital dedicated to the heroism of the first cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin.

The ceremony ended with the laying of wreaths at the monument of Gagarin.
