A ceremony of laying flowers at the monument of Simon Bolivar in Vazrazhdane Square was held in Sofia on 5 August.
It was organized by the Embassy of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela in Bulgaria on the occasion of the 205 anniversary of the proclamation of the independence of the country.
For the Venezuelan people Simon Bolivar is the Liberator. To the world he is the most famous Latin American revolutionary, general and politician during the wars of independence of the Spanish colonies. He dreamed of a great and united state on their territories - Gran Colombia. His contribution to the liberation from Spanish domination of five South American countries - Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia, is huge. In the period 1819 - 1830, he was president of Gran Columbia, which fell apart after his government.
