The People's Democratic Republic of Algeria’s Embassy to the Republic of Bulgaria and Foundation "199",
held an international conference on Museums of Algeria on last 21 March. The event was the 2024 edition of the Foundation Project "United Europe and its cultural heritage. Europe and the world cultural Heritage" and it took place in the Regional History Museum of Sofia.
The conference was carried out under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Bulgaria and under the patronage of H. E. Mr. Messaoud Mehila, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria’s to the Republic of Bulgaria. A large number of personalities of culture and Bulgarian museum directors and workers attended the conference. The guest of honour was Mrs. Dalila Orfali, Director of the National Museum of Fine Arts of Algiers.
The event began with the opening of an exhibition of photographs of Roman archaeological sites in Algeria.
Welcoming speeches were made by Mrs. Yana Genova, Deputy Mayor of Sofia, Culture, Sports and Youth, Mrs. Doroteya Gyurdjyiska, Head of Unit Museums, Galeries and Visual Arts, of the Ministry of Culture, Mr. Boris Hadjiyski, President of Bulgarian Museums Association, Mrs. Veneta Handjiyska, Director of the Regional History Museum of Sofia, and Mrs. Daniela Bozhinova, Member of Parliament, co-chair of the Bulgaria-Algeria Parliamentary Friendship Group.
A special address was made by H. E. Mr. Messaoud MEHILA, in which he highlighted the importance of cultural diplomacy in strengthening the relations of friendship and traditional cooperation between Algeria and Bulgaria.
Mrs. Dalila Orfali presented the activities and collections of museums in Algeria in two conferences on "Museum’s Management and Algerian government policy in this area" and "The National Museum of Fine Arts".
Documentaries on culture and tourism in Algeria, as well as on the National Museum of Fine Arts, were screened on this occasion. Both conferences were followed by animated discussion on the topic.
