The exhibition "Women refugees and asylum seekers in the EU" by the photographer Marie Dorini, will be presented in the House of Europe in Sofia from the 1st till the 31st of March 2016. The project includes 40 frames representing a real glimpse on the difficult journey of women refugees from the Middle East.
The photographer recreates all phases - from the arrival to the Greek coast by boats, their travel by train through the Balkans, to their attempts to obtain asylum in the Western Europe countries. The photos were taken during December 2015 and January 2016 and they are a powerful reminder of the unique challenges faced by women refugees. March is a thematic month for the European Parliament, which is dedicated to gender equality and women's rights. This year's initiatives will be mainly focused on the situation of women refugees in the EU, as one of the most vulnerable groups who are often victims of discrimination and violation of their fundamental human rights.
