On the initiative of the Embassy of the Kingdom of Thailand in Romania and Bulgaria under the auspices of the Metropolitan Municipality on the 19th of May, at the National Theatre "Ivan Vazov", the day of Thai culture was held.
The event was attended by H. E. Mr. Komgrit Varakamin, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the country and his wife Duangchayas well as the honorary consul of Thailand in Bulgaria, Mr. Viktor Melamed.
Hundreds of visitors had the opportunity to get acquainted with the distinctive elements of the culture of the ancient kingdom, represented by an attractive dance troupe, which arrived in Bulgaria especially for the event. The guests from Thailand demonstrated traditional dances under the accompaniment of authentic folk music and impressed the audience with original colourful clothing and unique movements.
Traditional martial arts were presented by the students of the sports club "Argus" - Varna, with their coach Nikolai Skiparnov. Dimitar Iliev, triple world champion of "Muay Thai" /Thai national sport/ took part in the demonstrations, and showed various techniques, moves and battle scenes from the ancient Thai martial art "Muay Buran" - its prototype.
Special surprise at the event was the participation of Chef Andre Tokev, who familiarized the visitors with the specifics of the Thai cuisine and presented a selection of traditional dishes. The visitors had the opportunity to taste the specialties of the Thai cuisine and they also engaged in activities during the specially organized workshops.
The guests from Thailand taught everyone some of the essential elements, steps and techniques both in the dances and in "Muay Thai". Active participation also took the compere of the event - the actress of the National Theatre - Vassilena Vincenzo.
