Each year on December 1 Romanian people celebrate their National Day, the date of the unification of Transylvania and Romania, and the creation of a united state in 1918.

On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of this historic event, on November 28, H. E. Mr. Ion Gâlea, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Romania, and his wife Mrs. Raluca Țigău, gave a reception in Sofia Hotel Balkan. Guests of the national holiday were the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Yuri Sterk, and other officials, His Holiness Patriarch Neofit and representatives of the church, ambassadors and diplomats, Romanians living in Bulgaria and friends.

The Ambassador welcomed the guests and said:

Romania celebrates the 100th anniversary of its unification, one of the most important moments in its modern history.

This round figure, 100 years, invites us to look upon history and learn from it. History has to be regarded from through the perspective of the future. We must learn from history that our future can rely only on a strong and united Europe, based on real fundamental values: tolerance, solidarity, respect for partners, together with human rights and rule of law.

For Romania, the year 2019 will mark also an important moment, the taking over of the presidency of the Council of the EU. It is important that one of the key priorities of the Romanian presidency is related to the fundamental values of the EU.  I am convinced that values can really represent the vision based on wisdom, on which the future Europe could be built.

The main topics of conversations during the reception were the 100th anniversary of the unification of Romania and its upcoming presidency of the Council of the EU.

The guests also enjoyed the wonderful wines and dishes prepared specially for the reception.
