The Embassy of the United Arab Emirates in the Republic of Bulgaria celebrated the 48th National Day with a reception on 27th November at the Marinela Sofia Hotel.

Mr. Tariq Hasan, Charge d’Affaires a.i., welcomed the numerous guests at Sofia Hall, including officials, ambassadors, diplomats, journalists and UAE friends.

The UAE National Day - December 2nd - is related to the establishment of an alliance of six Emirates - Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Um Al Qawin, Ajman and Fujairah in 1971, which were until then British protectorates. In February 1972, the seventh Emirate, Ras Al Khaimah, joined the Alliance. Since then, the country has faced rapid economic development thanks to both the rich oil reserves and tourism, one of the fastest growing industries.

In his welcoming speech to the guests at the reception, Mr. Tariq Hasan emphasized on the relations between our two countries:

It gives me great pleasure to welcome you all tonight at the celebration of the 48th UAE National Day.

Diplomatic relations between the United Arab Emirates and the Republic of Bulgaria were established in 1991, and since then, they have witnessed a worthy development, reaching nowadays the highest level of growth and prosperity.

Both countries formally opened their accredited Embassies in Sofia and Abu Dhabi in 2018, and official visits have started, fostering development of relations between the two countries in all fields.

The United Arab Emirates have welcomed Bulgarian nationals granting them the right to work and reside in the country, thus allowing them to play a significant role in UAE’s success, while the number of the resident Bulgarian community has reached approximately 7000 people, which is an essential sign of the deep friendly relations between both our countries.

Dear Guests,

One of the most important UAE events in the forthcoming year 2020, is the hosting of the International Exhibition "Expo 2020Dubai". We, as Emirati nationals, are extremely proud that this Exhibition will host participant countries from all over the world, and we arehonoured that the Republic of Bulgaria is one of them.

I would also like to point out one of the most important achievements of UAE Diplomacy, in terms of strength of the UAE passport, which now ranks the most powerful in the world, according to the Global Passport Index. Hence, more visa exemptions were granted with 177 countries, where UAE nationals are allowed to enter without a visa.

Finally, please allow me to thank the Bulgarian Government, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in specific for their continuous support and assistance ever since the establishment of the UAE Embassy in Sofia, and last but not least, allow me to thank all of you for sharing this day with us!

Sardechno Vi blagodaria!

The guests had the opportunity to explore the two incredibly interesting corners formed in the hall, with souvenirs from the UAE and products such as dates, Arabic coffee, traditional tea, dates with milk and karkade juice and a variety of sweets. And the abundance of traditional and modern dishes amazed everyone.
