The national holiday of the country – 25th of March, is connected with the uprising of the Greek people against the Ottoman Empire, which began in 1821 and led to the liberation and the creation of a sovereign Greek state.

On this occasion, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Greece in Bulgaria - H.E. Mr. Dimosthenis Stoidis, and his wife - Mrs. Maria Margariti, gave a reception in the Sofia Hotel Balkan. It was attended by ambassadors, politicians, representatives of the diplomatic corps and of numerous Greek communities in the country, business people and the media.

Before the anthems of the two countries a tribute was paid to the victims of the terrorist attacks in Brussels with a minute of silence. In his speech, H.E. Mr. Dimosthenis Stoidis condemned these acts and spoke of the need for even better cooperation between Bulgaria and Greece, as they are countries with geographical location at the entrance to Europe from the East that are directly affected by the current international situation.
