The most precious and beautiful roses in the world are grown in our country, in the Rose Valley

There, in late May and early June, rose harvest takes place. It starts early in the morning before dew falls. The famous rose-oil, valued by the perfume industry worldwide, is extracted from the roses there.  It is no surprise, that rose oil is defined as the gold of Bulgaria, and the rose - as its symbol.

Celebrations connected to picking and processing of roses are organised in early June in the villages of Rose Valley. The Rose Festival is organized in the town of Kazanlak. The celebration lasts for two-three days with lots of songs, dances and carnival processions.  A Queen of the Rose is selected – the most beautiful young girl in the festival. All guests eat pie /banitsa/, rose jam and rose liqueur.
