The 26th of April marked the 30th anniversary of the explosion at the reactor 4 of the nuclear plant in Chernobyl. On this occasion and in order not to ever forget the tragedy, the Embassy of Ukraine in the Republic of Bulgaria
with the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences organized the exhibition. At its opening on the 27th of April in the presence of the artist Roman Gumanyuk with regards to what happened in Chernobyl a speech was given by: Acad. Stefan Vodenitcharov, President of BAS, Hon. Dr. Mykola Baltazhi, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine, Assoc. Prof. Dimitar Tonev, Director of the Institute for Nuclear Research and Nuclear Energy at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences.
Roman Gumanyuk told the heart-rending crash through his influential works. The artist created them using sketches made on the spot and has given to them the impressions and feelings experienced after visiting the alienation zone in Chernobyl NPP. Why did the creator call his exposure "The lights of Pripyat or the shadows of Chernobyl"? "In my paintings I show that the lights in the empty city no longer shine. While the lights of Pripyat, are the shadows of Chernobyl. "/ Pripyat is the name of the river on which the headquarters and the city are located /.
"30 years have passed since the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. Hundreds of thousands of people were exposed to the destructive action of radiation, vast territories bordering the NPP in Ukraine and Belarus will remain uninhabitable for at least another 100 years. These are the terrible consequences of this accident, which has become the largest environmental disaster in the modern history of mankind. "- we read this on a poster in the exhibition. While the victims number of the tragedy and the heroes who gave their lives to secure the power plant and saved thousands of people still can not be calculated accurately. The radioactive cloud has affected large parts of Russia, Belarus and Central Europe until Nurkap. Bulgaria was also affected.
