On 5 November, H. E. Mr. Messaoud Mehila, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria to the Republic of Bulgaria and his wife Mrs. Sakina Mehala,

gave a reception at Hotel Ramada Sofia on the occasion of the national holiday of the country. On November 1, 2024, Algerian people celebrates the 70th anniversary of the victory of the 1954 Revolution, when the French domination was rejected and the country won its independence.

In his official speech H. E. Mr. Messaoud Mehila spoke about the greatness of the Algerian Revolution (1954-1962), one of the two greatest struggles for national liberation of the 20th century. He underlined the active solidarity of Bulgaria during the Liberation War and after independence, when we sent professional personnel in various fields to contribute to the country's development. Our bilateral relations since then have been excellent and the efforts of our governments to develop them further are undeniable.

The Ambassador added: "Today Algeria is experiencing significant development. The various international organizations welcome in their respective reports the progress made by Algeria. The IMF and the World Bank say that Algeria has achieved very high growth rates in recent years (4.1% and 3.9%) and that the country has no external debt.

The WFP and the FAO say Algeria is the leading African country in terms of food security and UNDP ranks Algeria high in terms of human resources development."

Numerous guests attended the Algerian reception: ambassadors and diplomats, politicians and MPs, representatives of state institutions, business, media and culture, friends of Algeria and Algerians living in our country. In the warm friendly atmosphere created by the hosts, they enjoyed  animated conversations, tasting the wonderful traditional dishes of Algerian cuisine.
