On February 10, on the occasion of the Russian professional holiday – the Day of Diplomatic Workers, H. E. Mr. Anatoly Makarov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Bulgaria,
the Military Attaché, officials of the Russian Embassy and the Russian Cultural and Information Centre, representatives of the Bulgarian society and various organizations laid wreaths and flowers at the Monument in the Doctor’s garden in Sofia. The monument depicts Count Ignatiev signing the Peace Treaty of March 3, 1878.
This solemn ceremony for the Day of Diplomatic Workers has become a tradition for the representatives of the Russian diplomacy in our country. A tradition is now also their visit to the school at the embassy that day where they tell their children about their profession and their daily work.
It is no coincidence that the gums and flowers are laid on the monument depicting Count Ignatiev. We would like to remind that he is among the diplomats who created the foundations of the Russian-Bulgarian friendship and who worked for many years for building strong and mutually beneficial relations between our countries. The monument, erected on the occasion of the 130th anniversary of the Liberation of Bulgaria and the end of the Russo-Turkish War /1877-1878/, was officially opened on January 18, 2008 by the foreign ministers of both countries, in the framework of the visit of President Vladimir Putin in Bulgaria
