On September the 17th , at the "Royal" Sofia Hotel Balkan was held the international conference on the "Cultural heritage for economic and social development in Bulgaria".

The conference was organized by the Embassy of the Kingdom of Norway and the Norwegian Institute for the Study of cultural heritage (NIKU) in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Bulgaria. It was opened by the Hon. Ms. Gyuru Katarina H. Vikyor, the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Norway in Bulgaria.

On the event was presented Norway's contribution to reducing economic and social disparities in Europe through the financing of programs for the protection and revitalization of cultural heritage within the EEA Financial Mechanism and the Norwegian Financial Mechanism. Emphasis was placed on the potential of cultural heritage to stimulate regional economic development and create jobs for vulnerable groups. The lecturers were representatives of the Norwegian Institute for the Study of Cultural Heritage (NIKU), Ministry of Culture, Bulgarian local authorities and researchers in the field of cultural heritage.
